What I’ve learnt about the IT Sector!

IT World Pic blogAlex’s Story

It’s estimated that the IT Sector generates more than over half of the UK’S total economic output and is responsible for around 5% of all jobs in the UK.

Therefore with the IT sector increasingly looking set to grow further, as technology inevitability advances, I thought it would be interesting to review what I’ve learnt so far during my apprenticeship. Firstly, and I think the most important thing I’ve learnt, is that working in IT means everyday is different. Almost all businesses today are reliant on IT in some form which means I work with a variety of people, with  different levels of  knowledge and technical experience, everyday. I have had to learn how to adapt in order to meet individual needs and understanding of IT. However working with so many different people across a range of sectors for me has been one of the things I like the most about working in IT.

Planning is key

I’ve learnt how important it is to plan so that I know every aspect of the work I am about to carry out and so that I am able to keep on top of all my jobs successfully. Careful planning has also helped me to see future opportunities for the business, and for our clients, and has allowed me more time to develop strong working relationships with clients.

Knowledge is power

Throughout my apprenticeship I have continued my on the job training whilst attending lessons and workshops at Bury college. This has increased my IT knowledge significantly and has meant that I am confident to discuss any technical situation with clients and suppliers.

Looking to the future

IT Support is becoming increasingly important to all business no matter what size whether that’s using IT to create a better more efficient business or implementing cyber security protection. No matter what it is, it can’t be denied that IT strategy is now becoming a fundamental part of business strategy.
